I had no idea, but I was just tipped off by Jane Metromix on this devastating news for hipsters everywhere. Father of Steve Aoki, ‘hipster icon in outer space’, Hiraoki Aoki (aka: Rocky), died last week. He was a former speedboat racer, olympic wrestler, pimp, baller, ice cream man, baby maker, and founded the Benihana amusement eating restaurant chain.

The memorial is set for this weekend in New York.

I hope Steve perms his hair in memory of his pops.

Here’s the song that was playing when this news was communicated to me via goog chat.

Surkin - Chrome Knight feat. Chromeo

Such a shame…(updated links)

My trusty steed of 4+ years has finally failed me. The backlight or inverter on my 17″ Powerbook finally gave out and I’m left with a gimpy computer through which I cannot see the cyber world. I have finally gotten around to hooking up an external monitor and getting back to my normal daily grind.

This happened just after vacation which would explain the insane delay in content between now and my last post.

Hello everyone, I’m still here.

Lately I’ve been getting down to fat and funky basslines and Lovelock from NY has been kicking out the jams. Word up to Aleks from the discodust for uncovering this gem. (ps: let’s start more mailing lists please)

listen for the awesome synth keyboarding:
Lovelock - Maybe Tonight

Speaking of funky bass lines, Fred Falke has been making his rounds in the blog world lately. This balding, stiff looking french man may be awkward in real life, but he brings the funk. The collaboration of Fred Falke’s fret burning bass skills and Miami Horror’s nostalgic synth stabs is heaven when added to Pnau’s “Embrace”.

Pnau - Embrace ft. Ladyhawke (Fred Falke & Miami Horror remix)

Finally what post on this website would be complete without a track by Midnight Juggernauts? Arguably one of my favorite bands in Australia (possibly the world) right now.

Gearing up for their new single release, come a slew of remixes for “Into the Galaxy”. Also a really dope dope dope dope (more dope) video:

It has been established that the “big gay australian circle jerk” phenomenon exists, however, Paris is destined to break the trend. Chateau Marmont (not to be confused with Chateau Marmont –my new residence) added a much needed parisian twist to this track (next next level blog music inbreeding). Anyway, fuck typing all this, just listen.

Midnight Juggernauts - Into the Galaxy (Chateau Marmont remix)

I just finished sifting through a shit ton of emails, and I’m pleased to say that quite a few things made my ears and eyes happy. Stay tuned.

ps: does anyone out there at Apple want to gift me a macbook pro? I’d really like that.
pps: i heard you can get free and steezy sunglasses that will instantly increase your street cred at glahsez.

UPDATE: thanks Jason for calling me out on the broken links, they’re fixed.

Ok, so I know, vacation means no computers, no work blah blah. Well, fuck vacation.

I got a message earlier this morning and boy was I excited. I’ve been in contact with the Buffet Libre guys for about a year now and they’ve been putting out awesome mixtapes, collaborations, parties, nonstop. I first heard about their latest project about 4 or 5 months ago. At that time the Rewind Project was merely in the planning stages with no actual evidence of existence… but now it’s all coming together.

July 15 marks the release of their first part of two in a series called “REWIND”. It’s an 80’s music cover project put on by Buffet Libre who enlisted the help of the blog world’s favorite electronic producers to re-make their favorite 80’s tunes.

Part one includes covers and remixes by: Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin, Dragonette, Moulinex, Xinobi,Overthrill, Cryptonites, Frankmusik, Sidechains, RAC feat Karl Kling, !Trash Yourself, South Central, Culture Prophet, Vitaminsforyou, Lismore, The Cloud Room, Mr Miyagi, Purple Crush, Levy, Electric Soft Parade, The Paper Scissors, Pomomofo, Saint Bernadette, Hello Tokyo, Cloetta Paris, Friday Bridge, ER2, Mark Mallman, Lucknow Pact, The Social Services, Band In A Box, We Are Soldiers We Have Guns, The Amplid, Oh Snap!, Fil Ok, Per QX, 3 is A Crowd, Mono4, Malk, Emotiquon, Julian Nation, Heartache, Hidden Cat, The Missiles, Database, CSK OK, Joe And Will Ask?, Cannonball Jane, The Fatels, Ruby Isle, PYT, Louis La Roche, TempestDisco, GlitchBitch, Keenhouse, Royal Rumble, Daroc, Adventure Kid.

Will you just look at that INSANE AS FUCK list of artists? This is like, a compilation of TUFTSMANIA BFFs. Also remember, this is just part 1.

I’m not going to link every single artist right now, after all, I’m on vacation. The Goog is your best friend.

To whet your appetite for the impending 80’s explosion, here’s a track from part 1. (believe me, both parts 1 and 2 are going to make you shit your shit)

Roger Troutman - Do It Roger (XINOBI Remix)

Part 1, July 15
Part 2, Sept 1

Don’t sleep!

Keep an eye on this spot for the official Buffet Libre Promo Minimix as well.

Just got this by way of email and I must say, I like attached mp3s rather than linked mp3s in my emails.

Apple mail puts a handy little play button in the mail window and I can listen directly there. This just makes my workflow that much quicker and a hell of a lot simpler.

I’d only heard of Intergalactic Bastard in passing, so getting a sample of his work in my mailbox was a nice surprise.

I’ve been loving this glitchy/stop/start sound lately –it’s kind of a sound The Videoband (no parisienne rmx, no exclamation) uses very well.

have a listen, then peep the myspace for other solid listening material. (very solid)

Intergalactic Bastard - Hell Yeah!
